A tropical vacation in the Bronx

Make it a tropical vacation in the Bronx by visiting the Tropical Paradise exhibit running now through Feb. 23 at the New York Botanic Garden.

The exhibit showcases the Conservatory’s permanent collection of tropical trees, flowers, and foliage. Through self-guided strolls through the grounds, use of a virtual smartphone tour, or joining in a staff-guided tour, participants warm up from the frigid cold and view paradise like never before.

Children participate in a scavenger hunt that begins in the Conservatory and continues through the Everette Children’s Adventure Garden where they can explore a healer’s hut among the vines and flowers. After the hunt, hands-on activities await the children in the Discovery Center — including sorting fruits and leaves and potting plants to take home. Children can make bark rubbings, count tree rings, and head back into the winter garden with a field notebook. The program is great for all ages.

Tropical Paradise, Tuesdays through Sundays, now through Feb. 23 from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20 for adults; $18 for seniors, students and children 2 to 12; and free for children under 2 years. All day passes are available.
