Charmingly grotesque

Celebrate architectural whimsy with a gargoyle or girl-goyle Halloween costume for your little Gothamite. It’s not hard to imagine that the old, carved waterspouts have taken wing in search of treats, and perhaps a bit of trickery, too, when you see the wonderfully detailed costumes from Chasing Fireflies.

The gargoyle’s top is made from a stone print polyester fabric, and it’s enhanced with a six-pack of “muscles.” The pants are given a timeworn feel with tattered gauze and feature a long, removable tail. Completing the illusion are taloned hands and shoecovers; 18-inch, bat-like wings; and a horned mask — all sold separately.

The girl-goyle costume is a long-sleeve, black-and-pewter polyester-rayon dress, poufed with gray tulle, that also includes a removable tail. A matching headband sporting horns, with horns in the same fabric, and wings are must-have accessories, also sold separately.

They can’t help but win the award for “beast” costume!
