Seeing red

They put the Grimm in Grimm’s fairy tale.

From Dec. 1 through Dec. 12, St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO hosts the American premiere of “The Red Shoes,” the Kneehigh Theatre’s gory re-enactment of the fairy tale about a peasant girl who falls in love with a pair of red shoes. They make her dance with delight and spin with possibilities but her love for them quickly becomes an obsession.

Surreal, sensuous, quirky and profound, this fun — but dark — cabaret will have children and adults on the edge of their seats.

Kneehigh Theatre’s “The Red Shoes” at St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water St. at Dock Street in DUMBO, (718) 254-8779], Dec. 1-12. Tickets $35-$65. Use the discount code KIDS for $10 tickets for weekend matinees for kids ages 8-16. Recommended for children ages 8 and up, though better for older children. For info, visit www.stannswarehouse.org.
