New Country Day Camp, a program of the 14th Street Y, is a fun-filled, completely outdoor adventure for kids K-6! Campers from Brooklyn and Manhattan explore friendship, nature, aquatics, and new ideas on our beautiful campgrounds on Staten Island, in a safe, nurturing and kid-charged environment. Air conditioned buses, pick up and drop off in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Every week, campers choose a program unit in which to specialize. The program units are: Sports, Science and Technology, Arts and Crafts, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Performing Arts, Photojournalism, and Cooking, Camping, and Pioneering. After trying out our different program units, campers are supported in making educated decisions about where to focus their time, helping them to become confident and independent people. Campers also swim twice a day, with both instructional and recreational periods. Each week of camp, a different story from Jewish text, history or folklore is relayed to campers in dynamic and innovative ways. These stories prompt explorations of universal concepts through participation in all of our program units, with a culminating Shabbat celebration every Friday. Camp is welcoming to children of all backgrounds; you do not have to be Jewish to attend. All you need is a willingness to explore stories, nature, independence, and community in a fun and safe environment.
